Unaka Consulting was founded by Michael K. Dunaway, P.E., P.G., a native Floridian with deep roots in Florida's natural and cultural heritage. His diverse experience in engineering design, environmental management, permitting, and earth science combined with his personal connection to Florida's history and environment give him a unique perspective in developing innovative, sustainable solutions for Florida's challenging conditions.
The name Unaka (u'-nah-kah) is from the Cherokee language and refers to the Unaka Range of the Appalachian Mountains. Rocks found in the Unakas were originally formed more than 1 billion years ago and subsequently altered during the formation of the Appalachians. Characteristic of this region is the metamorphic rock Unakite, which was formed from the ancient granite.
